As a canine massage therapist my job is to address physical and emotional needs of your dog. Massage has a positive affect on so many levels. I have been taught that about 10 minutes of canine massage therapy = 30 minutes of physical activity.
Emotional Health : Relaxes dogs prone to nervousness and anxiety, separation anxiety, those going through trauma, grief as well as dogs that are just shy or aggressive.
Noticing Structural Imbalances: This is one of our jobs as a CMT. Can be genetic or due to injury. Misalignment causes stress on compensatory muscles and joints as well as muscle tightness.
Increased Blood Circulation: As blood moves throughout the body it carries oxygen, hormones, proteins and nutrients that are a must for cell growth. As it travels it picks up waste and toxins and brings them back to the organs for filtering before they are sent out again. Blood flows around inactive and through active muscles.
Increased Lymph Movement: Massage moves lymph throughout the lymphatic system (runs similar to the venous system and enhances the flow of energy and healing white cells throughout the body. This is why it is imperative to stay active - with little muscle movement or activity both humans and dogs will see lymph stagnate and while blood cells not circulate.
Stimulate Acupressure Points: Acupressure is an ancient healing art that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the bodies' natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood to aid in healing.
